Restoration of Wetland Complexes as Life Supporting Systems in the Danube Basin
The Faculty of Science at the University of Sarajevo (PMF UNSA) has partnered with a European consortium to launch the Restore4Life initiative under the Horizon Europe framework. Running from 2023 to 2027, this project targets the restoration of freshwater and coastal wetlands across the Danube Basin, deploying nature-based solutions to revive these essential “life support units” for local ecosystems and communities.

Restore4Life & SELINA: A Synergy to Mainstream Ecosystem Restoration
By bridging data across European initiatives, have established an active science-policy synergy. This collaboration fuses SELINA’s evidence-based frameworks for mapping natural capital with Restore4Life’s data-driven Wetland Restoration Decision Support System, creating a unified approach to help public and private decision-makers implement cost-effective, nature-based solutions that reverse ecosystem degradation across the entire Danube Basin and beyond.
