Episode 6: The Economics of Wetland Conservation
Get ready for a fascinating exploration of wetlands through the lens of international development and finance. We are thrilled to announce that Paul Goriup, acclaimed professional ecologist, will be our guest on the final episode of Restore4Life: The Podcast, releasing next Monday, 24 November!
Wetlands are not just landscapes – they are vital, complex ecosystems essential for supporting biodiversity and playing a critical role in addressing climate change. Yet, these environments face urgent threats.
In this upcoming podcast episode, The Economics of Wetland Conservation, Paul Goriup will share how professional ecology and private-sector investment can be combined to drive successful conservation outcomes.
Paul Goriup holds a joint honours degree (BSc) in Botany and Zoology and an MSc in Conservation Science. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (FCIEEM) and a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. Paul has been involved in nature conservation work since 1977, starting as a Higher Scientific Officer in the UK government, followed by work in Africa and Asia for Worldwide Fund for Nature, and then Director of Conservation at BirdLife International. In 1986, Paul founded and remains a director of NatureBureau ltd, a company that provides technical support for ecological management projects in UK and abroad, as well as publishing a wide range of wildlife-related books.
In 1993, Paul started to work for international donors on environmental issues in the Black Sea basin, which in 1996 led him to establish FIELDFARE International Ecological Development ltd, one of Britain’s first pro-nature companies. This company has raised private-sector capital for small-scale investments in Ukraine such as biomass energy production and ecotourism.
